Creating Comfort and Empowerment: GBP Direct Furnishes the New Volunteers of America Women & Children’s Shelter in New Orleans
At GBP Direct, we believe that furniture is more than just something placed in a room — it’s an opportunity to shape how people feel, function, and flourish in a space. We recently had the honor of helping bring this vision to life at the new Volunteers of America Women & Children’s Shelter in New Orleans.

This project was especially meaningful to our team. The VOA reached out with a clear mission: to build a warm, safe, and empowering environment for women and their children as they rebuild and regain stability. We partnered closely with a talented designer from the VOA Board of Directors, who helped guide the vision and ensure that every space supported comfort, dignity, and empowerment. From the start, our shared goal was to create a residential feel — a place that truly feels like home.
Thoughtfully Furnishing Every Corner of the Shelter
Our sales and design team collaborated with VOA to select furniture that balances durability with comfort and style. The shelter needed spaces that looked and felt welcoming, while still standing up to daily use by families and staff.
Here’s what we helped furnish:
Private Rooms
We furnished each private room with beds, end tables, and wardrobes designed to offer both functionality and dignity. These spaces are meant to provide a sense of stability and personal comfort for women and children during a difficult transition.
Lounge & Common Areas
We supplied comfortable lounge seating and community-oriented furniture to make common areas inviting, calming, and supportive of connection among residents.
Children’s Lounge & Creativity Spaces
Recognizing how important play and imagination are for children coping with change, we provided furnishings for dedicated children’s lounge spaces and creativity areas. These sections were designed to feel bright, engaging, and nurturing — places where kids can relax, express themselves, and feel like kids again.
Private Offices
We also outfitted administrative and support offices with functional furniture to help VOA staff work efficiently as they assist families every day.
A Project That Inspires Purpose
Working with the Volunteers of America team was more than a business project — it was an opportunity to contribute to a mission centered around healing, safety, and empowerment. Their commitment to supporting women and children in need aligns closely with our own belief that thoughtfully designed environments can transform lives.
We’re proud to have played a role in helping VOA open a space that offers comfort, hope, and the foundation for a fresh start. It’s projects like these that remind us why purposeful design matters.
